Hellwood
Extremis Hellwood is European ash that has been through purgatory, to steel it against every kind of hellish ordeal out there: UV rays, rain and acid rain, changing humidity, frost and extreme heat.
The process gives the fibers more internal stability and makes the wood far more resistant to rot. The result reaches Durability Class I, just like the very best tropical wood. An attractive side effect: Hellwood's rich, dark color and flame-like grain.
The 3 finishes
- Natural: the wood as it's delivered, untreated.
- Weathered: how untreated Hellwood looks after time outdoors. It turns a natural silver-grey.
- Oiled: treated with Extremis Wood Protector, which keeps the deep original color.
Sustainable by nature
Hellwood is 100% PEFC-certified, from responsibly managed European forests. It gives you the durability of tropical hardwood, with wood grown much closer to home.
Wood is alive
- Our wood is delivered untreated, so you choose: let it turn silver-grey, or oil it to keep its color.
- Small cracks can appear and are normal. They often close again when humidity changes.
- Quick test: if a $1 coin doesn't fit in the crack, there's nothing to worry about.
